Ajay Chandrakar is an Indian politician from the state of Chhattisgarh. He is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has served as a Member of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly representing the Kurud constituency in the Dhamtari district of central Chhattisgarh.

Background

Chandrakar belongs to Chhattisgarh, a state formed on 1 November 2000 after being carved out of Madhya Pradesh. He has been politically active in the Dhamtari region, which lies in the rice-growing plains of central Chhattisgarh and is one of the older districts in the state.

Political career

Chandrakar has contested elections from the Kurud Vidhan Sabha constituency on a BJP ticket and has served multiple terms in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. During the BJP-led government in Chhattisgarh under Chief Minister Raman Singh (2003–2018), he held ministerial responsibilities in the state cabinet, with portfolios that included departments related to panchayat and rural development, urban administration, and culture during different periods of his tenure.

Following the Indian National Congress's victory in the 2018 Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly election, the BJP moved to the opposition benches in the state. Chandrakar continued to function as a member and senior figure of the BJP's legislative wing in Chhattisgarh.

The Kurud Assembly constituency falls within the Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency and is located in Dhamtari district. The area is predominantly agrarian, with paddy cultivation as the principal economic activity, and includes a mix of rural and semi-urban settlements.
