Background
The Blue Line of Namma Metro is being developed as part of Phase 2A and Phase 2B of the metro expansion programme. The line is planned to connect Central Silk Board in southern Bengaluru with Kempegowda International Airport in the city's northern outskirts, passing through the Outer Ring Road technology corridor that hosts a significant cluster of information technology and business process services employers. Airport City station is one of the stops located along the airport-bound segment of the alignment.
Significance
The Blue Line is intended to provide a direct rail-based link between the city centre, the Outer Ring Road employment belt, and the international airport, reducing dependence on road transport for airport access. Stations along the airport stretch, including Airport City, are expected to support both daily commuter traffic and airport-bound passengers.
