Location and connectivity
Adoni is situated on the broad-gauge Guntakal–Wadi line, which forms part of one of the principal north–south railway corridors of peninsular India. The station provides connectivity towards Guntakal Junction to the south and towards Raichur and onward to Wadi Junction to the north. The line passes through the Deccan Plateau and links the South Central Railway network with the Central Railway network at Wadi.
Background
The Guntakal–Wadi route was originally laid down during the British period as part of the strategic and commercial rail expansion across the Madras and Hyderabad territories. Adoni, owing to its position as a market town for cotton and agricultural produce, became one of the established stations along this corridor. After Indian independence and the subsequent reorganisation of railway zones, the station came under the jurisdiction of the South Central Railway.
