Background

Patel began his motorsport career in karting in India before moving into single-seater and touring car racing. Like several Indian drivers of his generation, he progressed through entry-level national categories before securing factory-supported drives in Asian championships.

Career

Early career

Patel competed in the Volkswagen Polo Cup, a one-make championship organised by Volkswagen Motorsport India that played a significant role in developing Indian touring-car talent. Strong results in domestic competition helped him gain attention from manufacturer-backed programmes.

Audi R8 LMS Cup

Patel raced in the Audi R8 LMS Cup, a one-make GT3 series organised by Audi Sport for the Asian region. He competed at circuits across Asia, including events in China, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, racing the Audi R8 LMS.

GT and endurance racing

Patel went on to compete in the Blancpain GT Series Asia (later renamed the GT World Challenge Asia), continuing in GT3 machinery. His participation in international GT racing made him one of the more visible Indian drivers in the discipline during the 2010s.

Significance

Patel's career is part of a broader phase of expansion in Indian motorsport during the late 2000s and 2010s, when manufacturer-supported one-make series and the staging of the Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit (2011–2013) created new opportunities for Indian drivers to move into international competition.
