The station is situated in the Adarsh Nagar locality, close to the Grand Trunk Road corridor in northern Delhi. It is positioned between major suburban halts on the line connecting Delhi to the northern outskirts of the National Capital Region. The locality is also served separately by the Adarsh Nagar metro station on the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro, which lies a short distance away; the two stations are distinct facilities operated by different organisations.

The station primarily handles suburban passenger services, including EMU and short-distance passenger trains running on the Delhi suburban network. It is not a terminal and most long-distance express trains pass through without halting.
