Abul Hasnat (Magrahat Paschim politician)

Abul Hasnat (1955 – 2019) was an Indian medical doctor and politician from West Bengal. He represented the Magrahat Paschim Assembly constituency in the South 24 Parganas district as a Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

Background

Hasnat trained and practised as a medical doctor before entering electoral politics. Like several other physician-politicians in West Bengal, he combined a medical career with public life, contesting and winning election from a constituency in the southern part of the state.

Political career

Hasnat served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Magrahat Paschim, a constituency located in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha region of South 24 Parganas. The seat lies in a predominantly rural and semi-urban area south of Kolkata, with a substantial Muslim population, and has historically been contested by the Left Front, the Indian National Congress and the Trinamool Congress.

Death

Hasnat died in 2019, while still associated with active political life in West Bengal.
