The station lies on the trunk route connecting Gujarat with Rajasthan and northern India, making it a regular halt for long-distance trains operating between Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer and beyond.

Lines and connectivity

The station sits on the broad-gauge main line that links Ahmedabad with Ajmer and onward to Delhi. The route has been electrified, allowing both electric and diesel-hauled services. Express, superfast and passenger trains halt at Abu Road, including services bound for Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Bhuj, Jodhpur, Bandra Terminus, Howrah and other destinations.

Facilities

  • Multiple platforms with foot overbridges connecting them.
  • Reservation counters and computerised ticketing.
  • Waiting rooms, retiring rooms and refreshment stalls.
  • Taxi and bus services to Mount Abu and nearby towns from outside the station.

Significance

Abu Road is one of the busier stations in southern Rajasthan due to its role as a gateway to Mount Abu, a major tourist and pilgrimage destination associated with the Dilwara Jain temples, Achalgarh, Guru Shikhar and the Brahma Kumaris headquarters. The station also serves cement and other industries located in the Sirohi region, and acts as a crew-change and operational point on the Ahmedabad–Ajmer corridor.
