History

Line 7 was developed by MMRDA as part of the broader expansion of metro connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, intended to relieve pressure on suburban rail and road traffic along the western suburbs. The first phase of the line was opened to the public in 2022, followed by the commissioning of the remaining stretch, with Aarey functioning as one of the intermediate stations on the corridor.

Layout and facilities

The station follows the standard Line 7 design, with a ticketing concourse at the mezzanine level and platforms above. Standard facilities include automatic fare collection gates, ticket counters, passenger information displays and accessibility features such as lifts and tactile guidance for differently abled passengers.

Connectivity

The station is served by BEST bus routes operating along the Western Express Highway and provides access to the surrounding residential, commercial and institutional areas in the Goregaon–Aarey belt.

Significance

Aarey station contributes to the metro network's role in providing an alternative high-capacity transit option in Mumbai's western suburbs, complementing the parallel Line 2A and the existing Mumbai Suburban Railway Western Line.
