Background

Kashyap hails from Chhattisgarh, a state better known for athletics and team sports than for racquet disciplines, and is among the few players from the region to have made a sustained mark in competitive badminton. She moved to Hyderabad to pursue full-time training at the academy run by former All England champion Pullela Gopichand, which has produced several leading Indian shuttlers.

Career

Kashyap rose through the junior ranks of Indian badminton, competing in age-group national championships organised by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) before moving to senior-level events. She has appeared in BWF-sanctioned international challenge and international series tournaments, and in domestic events including the Senior National Badminton Championships and the All India Senior Ranking Tournaments.

She has also been part of the Premier Badminton League (PBL) franchise system, which features Indian and overseas players in a team-based format.

Significance

As one of the visible women's singles players from Chhattisgarh on the national circuit, Kashyap is often cited in regional sports coverage as an example of badminton's growth outside the traditional strongholds of Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Pune.
