Background
Shamseer rose through the student and youth wings of the Left movement in Kerala, gaining political experience in Kannur district, a region historically considered a stronghold of the CPI(M). His early activism was rooted in the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).
Political career
Shamseer entered electoral politics as the CPI(M) candidate for the Thalassery Assembly constituency, a seat with a long association with the party. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly and was subsequently re-elected, continuing to represent Thalassery.
Following the formation of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government after the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election, the LDF nominated him as a senior member of the legislature.
