Overview
APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), initially known as Kerala Technological University, is a state public technological university headquartered at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It functions as both an affiliating and teaching university, with jurisdiction extending across the fourteen districts of Kerala.
The university is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the University Grants Commission (UGC). It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering, technology and management-related disciplines. The first batch of students was enrolled in the academic year 2015–16, making it a relatively new institution within Kerala's higher education landscape.
The university was named after A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the Indian aerospace scientist and statesman, in 2015. KTU was established as part of efforts to reform technical education in the state by bringing engineering colleges under a single specialised university, providing common curricula, examinations and academic standards across affiliated institutions.
According to the source, KTU has more than 170 affiliated colleges and over 160,000 enrolled students. The affiliated colleges include government, aided and self-financing engineering institutions spread across the state, with academic activities coordinated through the university's headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.
