Yenepoya was granted deemed-to-be-university status by the Government of India under the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC), bringing the affiliated colleges under a unified academic structure.

Programmes span undergraduate, postgraduate, super-speciality, and doctoral levels, with research activity in areas such as molecular biology, proteomics, public health, and clinical sciences.
The main campus is situated at Deralakatte, on the outskirts of Mangaluru, and houses the teaching hospital alongside academic blocks, hostels, and laboratories. The teaching hospital functions as a tertiary-care centre serving the coastal Karnataka region.

Its research wing has contributed to peer-reviewed publications in the life sciences, and the teaching hospital provides clinical services to patients from Karnataka and adjoining states.
