Wow! Momo was founded by Sagar Daryani and Binod Kumar Homagai, who started the venture shortly after completing their undergraduate studies at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. The first outlet was opened in a corner of a Spencer's supermarket in Kolkata, with the founders preparing and serving momos themselves. The brand grew out of the observation that momos, while widely consumed in eastern and northern India as street food, lacked a standardised, branded retail offering.
The company is operated by Wow! Momo Foods Private Limited. Over time, the brand expanded its menu beyond steamed momos to include pan-fried, tandoori, baked, sizzler-style and dessert momos, along with momo burgers and other innovations adapted to Indian palates.
From its origins as a small kiosk-format outlet in Kolkata, Wow! Momo expanded into a nationwide chain operating across major Indian metropolitan cities, including Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune and others. Outlets are typically located in shopping malls, food courts, high-street locations, and increasingly in transit hubs and supermarket corners.
The company has progressively launched additional brands under its parent entity, broadening its presence beyond momos. These include:
Wow! Momo has also expanded into packaged and frozen foods, distributing ready-to-cook momos and related products through modern trade and online channels, alongside delivery via aggregator platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy.
The company has raised multiple rounds of institutional funding to support its expansion. Notable investors over the years have included Indian Angel Network, Lighthouse Funds, and Tiger Global, among others. These rounds have supported new store rollouts, cloud kitchens, supply-chain infrastructure, and launches of additional brands within the group.
Wow! Momo is often cited as a case study in Indian entrepreneurship and the formalisation of street food categories. By taking a regional snack and standardising its preparation, packaging and branding, the chain contributed to the growth of the organised QSR segment in India alongside global chains and other domestic brands. Its founder Sagar Daryani has been recognised in Indian business and youth-entrepreneur listings for the company's growth trajectory.
