Overview

The West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) is a public medical university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established in 2003 through an Act of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, with the aim of providing better management of health and medical education-related courses in the state.

The principal objective behind the establishment of the university was to raise the level of medical education across West Bengal. Its mission is to affiliate institutions, teach, and ensure systematic instruction, training, and research across various streams of health sciences. These include Modern Medicine, Homoeopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dental, and Paramedical courses.

WBUHS oversees undergraduate, postgraduate, and post-doctoral programmes across these disciplines in West Bengal, serving as the affiliating body for health sciences education in the state.
