Vinoba Bhave University is a state university located in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, India, situated about 100 km from the state capital, Ranchi. The university came into existence on 17 September 1992 following the bifurcation of Ranchi University, and is named after the social reformer Vinoba Bhave.
The university offers courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels across a wide range of disciplines, including physical science, life science, earth science, social science, humanities, commerce, technology, medical science, law, education, homeopathy and ayurvedic medicines.
It manages and maintains 20 constituent colleges and oversees 61 affiliated colleges which provide instruction up to the undergraduate level. The Governor of Jharkhand serves as the chancellor of the university, in keeping with the convention followed by state universities in India.
Vinoba Bhave University is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission and is registered under Section 12B of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
