The park is situated on the East Coast Road, the coastal highway that runs south from Chennai towards Mahabalipuram and Puducherry. It lies along the Bay of Bengal coastline and is associated with the adjoining VGP Golden Beach resort area, which has historically been a popular leisure spot for residents of Chennai.
VGP Universal Kingdom features mechanical rides, water-based attractions, themed zones, and family entertainment areas typical of a mid-sized Indian amusement park. The complex is designed around fantasy and themed environments, and visitors generally combine a trip to the park with a visit to the adjacent beachfront.
The VGP Group, founded by the Raja family of Chennai, has long been associated with leisure and entertainment along the southern stretches of the city. Earlier generations of the group developed the VGP Golden Beach resort on the same coastline, and the amusement park was established as part of this larger recreation precinct on ECR.
VGP Universal Kingdom is considered a recognisable landmark on the East Coast Road and is among the better-known amusement parks in the Chennai metropolitan area, alongside Queensland and MGM Dizzee World. It contributes to the leisure tourism economy of the ECR corridor, which connects Chennai with the heritage town of Mahabalipuram.
