The college was initially housed in temporary premises before shifting to its present campus in Dilshad Garden, adjacent to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, which was developed as the associated tertiary care hospital for clinical training of UCMS students.
The college runs the MBBS undergraduate programme, postgraduate MD, MS and diploma courses across major clinical and pre-clinical specialties, and super-speciality DM and MCh programmes in select disciplines. It also conducts PhD programmes and offers BSc and MSc courses in medical technology and related allied health subjects. Admission to the MBBS course is conducted through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), while postgraduate admissions are through NEET-PG.
Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, run by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, serves as the principal teaching hospital for UCMS. It is one of the largest hospitals in East Delhi and provides a wide range of secondary and tertiary care services, including emergency, intensive care, trauma, and super-speciality services that support the clinical training of UCMS students and residents.
Faculty members of UCMS contribute to clinical, biomedical and public health research, with output in Indian and international journals. The college is associated with academic publishing activity in the medical sciences and supports student and faculty research through its institutional review and ethics committees.
UCMS hosts an annual cultural and sports festival and supports a range of student bodies, scientific societies and chapters of national medical student organisations. Hostel accommodation is provided on or near the campus for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
As one of the medical colleges of the University of Delhi, UCMS occupies an important place in medical education and healthcare delivery in the National Capital Region. Together with GTB Hospital, it provides affordable tertiary care to a large population in East Delhi and adjoining areas of Uttar Pradesh, while training successive cohorts of doctors, specialists and researchers.
