Tina Datta was born and brought up in Kolkata, West Bengal. She began appearing on screen at a young age, taking up child roles in Bengali films and television projects before transitioning to Hindi television as an adult performer. Her early exposure to acting shaped her later move to Mumbai to pursue a full-time career in the Hindi entertainment industry.
Datta's early career consisted of child artist appearances in Bengali cinema and regional television. This early experience gave her a foothold in the industry well before her breakthrough role in Hindi television.
Her most recognised work has been in Uttaran, a Hindi-language soap opera produced by Rashmi Sharma Telefilms that aired on Colors TV. The serial began in 2008 and ran for several years, exploring the relationship between two women from sharply different social backgrounds. Datta played the adult Ichha, a role that defined her public image and brought her sustained recognition on prime-time television.
After Uttaran, Datta took up roles in fiction shows on various Hindi entertainment channels, alongside fashion and brand-related modelling assignments.
In 2022, Datta entered the Salman Khan-hosted reality show Bigg Boss 16 on Colors TV as one of the confirmed contestants. Her stint on the show widened her audience beyond fiction television viewers and brought her renewed visibility on social media and the celebrity-interview circuit.
Datta is associated with the wave of Indian television actresses whose careers were built around long-format daily soaps in the late 2000s and 2010s. Her sustained run in Uttaran placed her among the recognisable faces of Colors TV during that period, while her later participation in reality television reflects a common career trajectory for fiction artistes seeking broader formats.
