Overview

Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), formerly known as Tamil Nadu National Law School (TNNLS), is a National Law University located in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. The university is dedicated to legal education and research, and forms part of the wider network of National Law Universities established across the country.

TNNLU features on the University Grants Commission (UGC)'s approved list of universities. It is also included under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956, which enables the institution to seek grants from the UGC and other central government agencies. In addition, the Bar Council of India recognises TNNLU as a Centre for Legal Education, permitting it to offer professional law programmes.

The university is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, and holds permanent membership of the Indian Academy of Social Science. TNNLU is also an empanelled institution with the Competition Commission of India, reflecting its engagement with regulatory and policy bodies in areas relevant to legal study and practice.

As of 2025, TNNLU had approximately 30 faculty members, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 20:1.
