The hotel occupies a property in central Bengaluru close to the Race Course Road area, and is set on a campus characterised by mature trees and gardens. Its buildings combine colonial bungalow-style architecture with later additions, and the property is classified within the Taj group's heritage portfolio alongside other historic Taj properties in India.
The West End began as a small lodging establishment during the colonial period in Bangalore, when the city served as a cantonment town under the British. Over the decades it expanded from a guesthouse into a full-service hotel. In the latter half of the twentieth century, the property was acquired and brought under the management of the Indian Hotels Company Limited, the hospitality arm of the Tata Group, after which it was rebranded as Taj West End.
The hotel offers guest rooms and suites housed across heritage and contemporary wings, multiple restaurants and bars, banquet and conference facilities, a spa, and an outdoor swimming pool. Its garden setting is frequently used for weddings and large social events in the city.
As one of Bengaluru's longest-established hotels, Taj West End is regarded as a landmark in the city's hospitality sector. It is often cited alongside other historic Indian hotels operated under the Taj umbrella, and its garden campus has made it a notable venue for civic, corporate, and cultural gatherings in Bengaluru.
