Sushmita Mukherjee (born 11 November 1964) is an Indian actress whose career spans Hindi cinema, television, and theatre. She is widely recognised for her work in the television serial Gangaa and for her role in the film Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006). Over the years, she has made notable contributions to both stage and screen.
Mukherjee studied at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi, and is an alumna of the National School of Drama, graduating in 1983. Her training in theatre has informed much of her subsequent work in films and television.
In Hindi cinema, she has appeared in films alongside Jackie Shroff, including Khalnayak, which also featured Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt, and King Uncle, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Paresh Rawal. On television, she has portrayed Kusum Mishra in Jagannath Aur Purvi Ki Dosti Anokhi on Sony TV, and Rekha in the Star Bharat show Meri Saas Bhoot Hai, opposite Kajal Chauhan and Vibhav Roy.
Beyond acting, Mukherjee is also a writer. Her book Baanjh: Incomplete Lives of Complete Women, a collection of eleven short stories, was released in January 2021. She was earlier married to the director Sudhir Mishra, and later married the actor and producer Raja Bundela, with whom she has two children.
