Sujit Kumar

Overview

Sujit Kumar (7 February 1934 – 5 February 2010) was an Indian actor and producer associated with Hindi and Bhojpuri cinema. Across a career spanning the 1960s to the 1990s, he appeared in over 150 Hindi films and featured in at least 20 Bhojpuri films.

In Bhojpuri cinema, Sujit Kumar was often cast as the lead actor, while in Hindi films he was generally seen in pivotal supporting parts, playing either a villain or a character role. One of his most widely remembered screen moments is from the 1969 film Aradhana, in which he played a friend driving a jeep and playing the mouth organ as Rajesh Khanna's character serenades Sharmila Tagore.

From the late 1980s through the 2000s, Sujit Kumar worked primarily as a film producer. In 1987, his likeness was used by Sega for the character of Shinobi.
