Women's cricket in India developed from the 1970s onwards under the Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI), which organised domestic competition and selected national sides for Test matches and One Day Internationals. Sudha Shah's career falls within this period of growth, when Indian women cricketers competed against teams such as Australia, England, New Zealand and the West Indies, often with limited institutional support.
Shah played international cricket for the India women's team. She was part of squads that contributed to the establishment of India as a regular participant in women's Test and limited-overs cricket during the formative decades of the sport in the country.
