Finn rose through the youth ranks at Middlesex and made an early breakthrough into senior cricket. At the age of 16 he became the youngest player ever to make a first-class debut for Middlesex County Cricket Club, a record that drew attention to him as one of the leading fast-bowling prospects in the English county system.
Finn spent his domestic career with Middlesex, the county he had represented since his teenage years. His pace and bounce, generated from a tall frame and a high release point, made him a frontline seam bowler in the County Championship and limited-overs competitions.
His performances at county level led to selection for England, and he made his Test debut in 2010 in a series against Bangladesh. He went on to feature for England across formats during the early and mid-2010s as part of the country's pace attack.
In 2019, Finn joined the BBC radio programme Test Match Special as a commentator, contributing analysis of international and domestic cricket alongside the programme's established team.
Finn is remembered as one of the tallest and fastest English seam bowlers of his generation, and as a Middlesex stalwart whose record-breaking debut underlined the county's role in developing England-qualified fast bowlers. His transition to broadcasting on Test Match Special placed him in a long line of former England cricketers who have moved into cricket commentary in the United Kingdom.
