Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady

Overview

Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) is a Sanskrit university located in Kalady, Kochi, in the Indian state of Kerala. It was established in 1993, during the tenure of E. T. Muhammed Basheer, leader of the Indian Union Muslim League, as the Education Minister of Kerala. The foundation stone for the university was laid by Bharathi Tirtha Mahaswamiji of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham.

The university is named after Adi Sankaracharya, the philosopher traditionally associated with Kalady as his birthplace. While Sanskrit forms the core of its academic identity, SSUS offers programmes across a broader range of disciplines, including other Indian and foreign languages, Social Sciences and Fine Arts.

SSUS has been accredited with an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In addition to its main campus at Kalady, the university operates eight regional campuses spread across Kerala, extending access to its academic programmes to students in different parts of the state.
