Sarkar represents Bangladesh in international cricket and has built his career largely as a top-order batter. His batting style is noted for its fluency, and he is credited with inventing the stylish "Periscope" shot, an unorthodox stroke played over the wicketkeeper.
Sarkar plays for the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the franchise-based Twenty20 competition in Bangladesh. In the longer format, he turns out for Khulna Division in the National Cricket League, the country's first-class tournament. He also represents Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier Division, the leading List A competition in Bangladesh.
Sarkar is regarded as one of the prominent left-handed top-order batters produced by Bangladesh in the post-2014 era, contributing to the national side across Tests, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. His versatility as a part-time medium-fast bowler also makes him a utility player in the limited-overs formats.
