Sneha was born on 12 August 1981 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, into a Tamil-speaking family. She was raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and completed her schooling there before pursuing higher education at Ethiraj College for Women. She adopted the screen name Sneha to avoid confusion with the senior actress and filmmaker Suhasini Maniratnam.
Sneha made her acting debut in the Malayalam film Ingane Oru Nilapakshi (2000). Her Tamil debut came with Virumbugiren (2002). She subsequently appeared in films such as Punnagai Desam (2002) and Unnai Ninaithu (2002), establishing her presence in the Tamil industry.
Her performance opposite Vikram in Bala's Pithamagan (2003) brought wider recognition. The same period saw her cast in Kamal Haasan's Virumaandi (2004) and in Cheran's Autograph (2004), both of which were critically and commercially successful. She went on to play leading roles opposite major Tamil actors of the period, including in Aaru (2005), Sivakasi (2005), Polladhavan (2007) and Pirivom Santhippom (2008).
Sneha worked extensively in Telugu cinema during the 2000s, with films such as Murari (2001), Aadi (2002), Tagore (2003), Naa Autograph (2004) and Bhageeratha (2005). She also acted in Kannada and made a Hindi-language appearance in Khaleja's broader regional releases through dubs, while continuing primary work in the southern industries.
After her marriage in 2012, she reduced the volume of her film commitments. She returned to films and television in subsequent years, taking on character and second-lead roles. Her later Tamil work includes Bhaskar Oru Rascal (2018) and Pattas (2020). She also hosted television programmes on Tamil channels and appeared in web content during the late 2010s.
Sneha married actor Prasanna on 11 May 2012 in Thirumazhisai, Tamil Nadu. The couple have two children. She is known for her involvement in promotional and brand work for South Indian consumer products and for her appearances at film and cultural events.
Sneha has received recognition at industry award ceremonies for her performances in Pithamagan, Autograph and Pirivom Santhippom, including honours from Filmfare Awards South and the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. She is generally counted among the prominent Tamil film actresses of the 2000s.
Sneha's career reflects the cross-industry mobility common among South Indian actors of her generation, combining commercial Tamil cinema with simultaneous work in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. Her roles in films directed by Bala, Kamal Haasan and Cheran are noted for moving beyond conventional heroine parts to characters with greater dramatic depth.
