Simranjit Kaur hails from the Chakar village area of the Ludhiana district in Punjab. She comes from a family with a boxing background, with several siblings also taking up the sport. She trained within the national amateur framework administered by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and was inducted into national camps that prepare boxers for continental and world events.
Simranjit Kaur is known as a counter-puncher with an orthodox stance, relying on movement and timing rather than purely aggressive pressure. Her qualification for the Tokyo Games made her part of the largest Indian boxing contingent to compete at an Olympic Games up to that point, signalling the increased depth of women's boxing in India following the path opened by M. C. Mary Kom.
