Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) is a deemed-to-be university established by the Government of India in 1989 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Located at Longowal in the Sangrur district of Punjab, the institute is dedicated to higher education and research in engineering and technology.
The institute was set up in memory of the late Harchand Singh Longowal under the Rajiv–Longowal Punjab Accord. It functions as an autonomous body governed by the SLIET Society and is fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now the Ministry of Education), Government of India.
SLIET operates from a campus spread over approximately 451 acres (183 hectares) and is sometimes described as a "Modern Gurukul" of technical education on account of its green surroundings. The institute offers technical and practical training across various branches of engineering and technology, with its undergraduate programmes accredited at Tier 1 by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Students and alumni of the institute are informally referred to as SLIETians.
