He went on to feature in several major tournaments for the side, including the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2011 Cricket World Cup. At the 2011 World Cup, he scored 119 runs against England, becoming the first Dutch batter to record an ODI century against a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

In September 2021, he announced that he would retire from professional cricket at the end of that year.
Ten Doeschate is regarded as one of the most accomplished cricketers produced by an Associate nation. His three ICC Associate Player of the Year awards and his century against England at the 2011 World Cup remain landmark achievements for Dutch cricket. Following retirement, his transition into coaching roles with Kent, Kolkata Knight Riders and the India national side has extended his involvement in international and franchise cricket.
