Rupa began as a bookselling and distribution business before evolving into a full-fledged publisher under the Rupa & Co. imprint. For several decades it was associated with the import and distribution of titles from major international publishers in the Indian market, which gave it a wide retail reach across bookshops in metropolitan and smaller Indian cities.
