Riteish Deshmukh is an Indian actor, film producer and architect, primarily associated with Hindi and Marathi cinema. He is known for his work in comedy films of the 2000s and 2010s, and for backing several notable Marathi-language productions through his banner Mumbai Film Company. He is the son of Vilasrao Deshmukh, a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Union Minister.

Riteish Deshmukh was born into the politically prominent Deshmukh family of Babhalgaon, near Latur in Marathwada. His father Vilasrao Deshmukh served two terms as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and held several portfolios at the Union level, including Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Science and Technology, and Rural Development. His elder brother Amit Deshmukh and younger brother Dheeraj Deshmukh have both contested elections from Latur on Indian National Congress tickets.
Riteish trained as an architect at the Kamala Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute of Architecture in Mumbai and pursued further studies in the United States before entering films. He has occasionally spoken of architecture as a continuing interest alongside his acting career.
Deshmukh made his acting debut in Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), directed by Vijay K. Bhaskar, opposite Genelia D'Souza, whom he later married. He gained wide recognition with the multi-starrer comedy Masti (2004), directed by Indra Kumar, and consolidated his image as a comic lead through films such as Bluffmaster! (2005), Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), Heyy Babyy (2007), Dhamaal (2007), De Dana Dan (2009) and Housefull (2010).
The 2010s saw him work steadily in ensemble comedies including Double Dhamaal (2011), Kya Super Kool Hain Hum (2012), Housefull 2 (2012), Grand Masti (2013), Humshakals (2014), Total Dhamaal (2019) and Housefull 4 (2019). He played a notable negative role as the antagonist in Ek Villain (2014), directed by Mohit Suri, which marked a shift in his on-screen image.
He has also appeared in dubbed and multilingual projects, and lent his voice to animated and promotional content for various studios.
Riteish made his Marathi debut as an actor and producer with Lai Bhaari (2014), directed by Nishikant Kamat, which became one of the highest-grossing Marathi films of its time. Through Mumbai Film Company, founded with his brother Amit Deshmukh, he produced acclaimed Marathi titles including Yellow (2014), about a child with Down syndrome, which won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues, and the courtroom drama Court (2014) by Chaitanya Tamhane, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film and was India's official entry to the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
He directed his first Marathi feature, Ved (2022), in which he also starred opposite Genelia D'Souza. The film was a commercial success in Maharashtra.
Deshmukh appeared as a celebrity host alongside Sajid Khan and Boman Irani on the comedy chat show Yaaron Ki Baraat, and has hosted and judged various television and digital formats. He starred in the Netflix series Plan A Plan B (2022) and the political drama series Pill (2024) on JioCinema. He has anchored stage events including the Filmfare Awards and IIFA ceremonies on multiple occasions, often with Sajid Khan or Boman Irani.
Riteish Deshmukh married actress Genelia D'Souza on 3 February 2012 in a Maharashtrian ceremony, followed by a Christian wedding. The couple has two sons, Riaan (born 2014) and Rahyl (born 2016). He has publicly identified as a vegan and has supported animal welfare and environmental causes. He has campaigned for the Indian National Congress during state and general elections in Maharashtra in support of his brothers.
