Ranga Reddy district is an administrative district in the Indian state of Telangana. It surrounds much of the state capital, Hyderabad, on the southern and western sides, and forms part of the wider Hyderabad metropolitan region. The district takes its name from Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, a freedom fighter and former Deputy Chief Minister of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.

The district was carved out of the erstwhile Hyderabad district on 15 August 1978 to administer the rural and semi-urban tracts that ring the city of Hyderabad. Until the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in June 2014, it was part of that state; thereafter it became one of the districts of the newly formed state of Telangana.
In October 2016, the Government of Telangana undertook a major reorganisation of districts, during which Ranga Reddy was reduced in area. Several mandals were transferred to form parts of the newly created districts of Vikarabad district, Medchal-Malkajgiri district and Sangareddy district.
The district lies on the Deccan Plateau and is characterised by undulating terrain, granite outcrops and seasonal streams. The Musi river, a tributary of the Krishna, traverses parts of the district. Land use is mixed: dryland agriculture, horticulture and large stretches of urbanised and industrial land influenced by the proximity of Hyderabad.
Ranga Reddy is divided into revenue divisions, which are further subdivided into mandals and revenue villages. Local self-government is provided through gram panchayats in rural areas, along with municipalities and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in the urbanised pockets that fall within the district.
The district's economy is closely linked to that of Hyderabad. Key drivers include:
The district is served by a dense road network, including the Outer Ring Road around Hyderabad and several national highways radiating from the city. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad lies within Ranga Reddy district and is one of the major airports of southern India. South Central Railway operates suburban and long-distance services through stations located in the district.
Several universities, research institutes and higher education campuses are located within the district, reflecting its position on the periphery of Hyderabad. These include engineering colleges, management institutes and central as well as state-affiliated research centres.
The population is linguistically diverse, with Telugu as the principal language, alongside significant numbers of Urdu, Hindi and other language speakers in urbanised areas. The district shares the cultural traditions of the Telangana region, including local festivals such as Bathukamma and Bonalu, in addition to pan-Indian observances.
Owing to its location around the state capital, Ranga Reddy district plays a strategic role in Telangana's economy and governance. Major IT corridors, industrial estates, the international airport and large residential townships situated in the district make it one of the most economically important districts in the state.
