Ram Kapoor was educated in India before training in performing arts. He began his career in the late 1990s in Indian television during a period when satellite channels such as Star Plus, Sony Entertainment Television and Zee TV were rapidly expanding the daily soap format. He is married to actress Gautami Gadgil, who is known professionally as Gautami Kapoor; the couple have two children.
