Ram Gopal Yadav

Overview

Ram Gopal Yadav (born 29 June 1946) is an Indian politician from Uttar Pradesh. He serves as the Secretary-General of the Samajwadi Party and has been a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha since 2008.

Earlier, Yadav represented the Sambhal constituency in the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2008. Within the Samajwadi Party, he has been one of the senior figures associated with the party's national-level functioning.

On 23 October 2016, Yadav was expelled from the Samajwadi Party by Shivpal Singh Yadav, the then state president of the party. He was subsequently taken back into the party. On 30 December 2016, party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was also his cousin, expelled him from the party for six years; the expulsion was revoked the following day on constitutional grounds.
