Race is an Indian Hindi-language film franchise consisting of action thrillers known for their twist-driven plots, glamorous settings, exotic foreign locales, and large ensemble casts. The series was launched in 2008 by the filmmaker duo Abbas–Mustan under their banner, with production handled by Tips Industries for the first two films and by Salman Khan Films in association with Tips for the third instalment. The franchise comprises three feature films released between 2008 and 2018.

The franchise was conceived during a period when Hindi cinema saw renewed interest in slick, urban thrillers shot abroad. Abbas–Mustan, already known for suspense titles such as Baazigar (1993), Khiladi (1992) and Humraaz (2002), developed Race as a multi-character thriller centred on betrayal, double-cross and inheritance disputes. Writers Shiraz Ahmed contributed the story and screenplay across the first two films, establishing the franchise's signature pattern of repeated narrative reversals.
Directed by Abbas–Mustan, Race was set largely in Durban, South Africa, and revolved around two stud-farm-owning half-brothers, played by Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna. The cast also included Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy. The soundtrack, composed by Pritam, became commercially popular, with songs such as "Pehli Nazar Mein" gaining wide airplay. The film was a box-office success and established the property as a franchise.
Also directed by Abbas–Mustan, Race 2 retained Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor from the original cast and added John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ameesha Patel. The film was set across European locales including Turkey and continued the storyline of con games and shifting allegiances. Pritam returned as composer.
The third instalment marked a change in creative leadership, with Remo D'Souza directing and Salman Khan headlining the cast. It was produced by Salman Khan Films along with Tips. The ensemble featured Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah and Saqib Saleem. The film was shot in locations including Abu Dhabi and Thailand, and released theatrically on 15 June 2018, coinciding with Eid. While it opened to strong box-office numbers, critical reception was mixed to negative.
The franchise is regarded as a notable example of the glossy multi-starrer thriller format in 2000s and 2010s Hindi cinema. The first film is generally considered the best-received critically, while the sequels were commercially driven. Songs from the series, particularly from the Pritam-composed soundtracks, contributed significantly to the franchise's popular recall. Race 3 drew attention for its viral dialogues and online commentary, becoming a frequently referenced title in Indian internet culture.
