Pravin Tambe is an Indian cricketer known primarily for his work as a leg-spin bowler in domestic and franchise cricket. He gained wide public recognition late in his career, becoming one of the oldest players to make a mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and other Twenty20 leagues, despite never having played first-class cricket before his IPL debut.

Tambe was born and raised in Mumbai, where he played club cricket for many years on the city's competitive maidan circuit. He represented several well-known Mumbai clubs in the Kanga League and Times Shield tournaments. For most of his early career, he remained outside the state senior team set-up, working through the club system without breaking into the Ranji Trophy at a young age.
Tambe spent close to two decades in Mumbai's club cricket scene before getting a major opportunity. His persistence in domestic and corporate cricket eventually drew the attention of franchise scouts ahead of the Indian Premier League.
Tambe was signed by the Rajasthan Royals and made his IPL debut in 2013 at the age of 41, an unusually late entry into top-level professional cricket. He quickly established himself as a wicket-taking option in the middle overs, using flight, drift and a reliable googly. During the 2014 IPL season, he took a hat-trick against the Kolkata Knight Riders, becoming one of the older players in the tournament's history to achieve the feat. He finished as one of Rajasthan Royals' leading wicket-takers in that period.
After Rajasthan Royals were suspended, he played for Gujarat Lions and was associated with other franchises in subsequent seasons, including Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Tambe also featured for Rajasthan Royals in the Champions League Twenty20 and was among the leading wicket-takers in the 2013 edition of that tournament. In 2020, he played in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for Trinbago Knight Riders, becoming the first Indian cricketer to play in the CPL after taking retirement from Indian domestic cricket.
Following his IPL exposure, Tambe made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai and later played for Vidarbha. He continued to take wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and other limited-overs domestic competitions well into his forties.
Tambe is a classical leg-spinner who relies on flight, dip and a sharply turning leg-break, supplemented by a well-disguised googly. He is regarded as a thinking bowler, often used in the powerplay and middle overs in T20 cricket to break partnerships.
Tambe's career is frequently cited as an example of late-career success in Indian cricket. His story—of breaking into top-flight cricket in his forties through the IPL after years in club cricket—has been highlighted as evidence of the franchise league's role in identifying talent overlooked by traditional pathways. A Hindi-language biographical film, Kaun Pravin Tambe?, released in 2022, dramatised his journey from the Mumbai maidans to the IPL.
