Phil Hughes

Overview

Philip Heywood Hughes (born 17 June 1991) is an English cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm medium pace. Hughes was born in Southampton, Hampshire, and was educated at The Romsey School and Peter Symonds College before going on to study at Cambridge University.

Hughes made his first-class cricket debut for Cambridge MCCU against Sussex in 2010, while pursuing his degree at Cambridge. In the same season, he featured in the University Match between Cambridge University Cricket Club and Oxford University Cricket Club, one of the long-standing fixtures in English university cricket.

During the 2011 season, Hughes made three further first-class appearances for Cambridge MCCU and once again played in that season's University Match. Across his outings against top-class opposition, he scored 91 runs at an average of 15.16, with a highest score of 32.
