The expansion of higher education in Bihar over the past several decades led to a steady rise in the number of colleges affiliated with older universities such as Patna University and Magadh University. To ease this administrative load and to bring focused governance to colleges in and around Patna, the Government of Bihar created Patliputra University as a separate state university.
