The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, and admissions to several courses are conducted through state-level entrance examinations.
OUAT manages a network of regional research stations, adaptive research centres, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras spread across the agro-climatic zones of Odisha. Research themes include rice and pulse improvement, horticultural crops, livestock and poultry production, fisheries, soil and water management, and farm mechanisation suited to the state's coastal, plateau, and hill ecologies. Extension activities link the university to state agriculture, fisheries, and animal husbandry departments, and to farmer training programmes.
As Odisha's apex agricultural university, OUAT plays a central role in producing qualified agricultural scientists, veterinarians, engineers, and extension professionals for the state and the wider eastern Indian region. Its research outputs contribute to crop varietal development, livestock improvement, and technologies adapted to the rainfed and coastal farming systems of Odisha.
