Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, NIMS came under the administrative jurisdiction of the Government of Telangana.
NIMS functions both as a tertiary care hospital and as a deemed-style university empowered to grant its own degrees through state legislation. NIMS is regarded as one of the leading public-sector tertiary referral institutions in southern India. It plays a substantial role in subsidised superspecialty care, postgraduate medical education, and clinical research, and serves as an empanelled provider for various state-funded health insurance schemes operated by the Government of Telangana.
