The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Kolkata (NIPER Kolkata) is a public postgraduate institute dedicated to pharmaceutical education and research. It is one of the seven NIPERs established by the Government of India under the aegis of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, with the objective of nurturing high-quality human resources and advanced research in the pharmaceutical sciences.

The NIPER system was conceived by the Government of India to address the need for specialised, research-oriented education in pharmacy and allied disciplines. NIPER Mohali, established in 1998, was the first such institute and serves as the model for the wider network. NIPER Kolkata was set up subsequently as part of the expansion of this network to additional regions of the country, with the eastern Indian institute being co-located with established central government pharmaceutical infrastructure in Kolkata.

Admission to master's level programmes across NIPERs is conducted through a common entrance examination (the NIPER Joint Entrance Examination), with seats allocated to the participating institutes.
As the eastern Indian member of the NIPER network, NIPER Kolkata contributes to building research capacity in pharmaceutical sciences in the region, supports India's pharmaceutical industry through trained manpower, and undertakes research aligned with national priorities in drug discovery, formulation development, and public health.
