Overview

The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) is an Indian education and research institution based in New Delhi. It is primarily responsible for training and capacity development programmes related to the management of natural disasters in India.

The institute was constituted under an Act of Parliament in 1995. It was subsequently re-designated under its present name, the National Institute of Disaster Management, by the Disaster Management Act, 2005, which received the assent of the President of India on 9 January 2006.

NIDM's mandate centres on building human resource capacity in the field of disaster management through training, education and research activities aimed at strengthening preparedness and response to natural disasters across the country.
