The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) is a premier institute for teaching, training, research and clinical practice in Ayurveda, located in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. NIA offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in various branches of Ayurveda, alongside a teaching hospital that provides clinical services to patients. It functions both as an academic institution and as a centre for advanced research in classical Ayurvedic disciplines, drug standardisation, pharmacology, and integrative healthcare.
The institute was established by the Government of India to serve as an apex centre for the development of Ayurveda on scientific lines. It was set up to provide standards of teaching, training and research, and to act as a model for other Ayurvedic institutions in the country. The campus is situated near the historic Amer Road area of Jaipur.

The institute operates a teaching hospital with inpatient and outpatient departments offering Ayurvedic treatment, including specialised Panchakarma therapy, Kshara Sutra procedures for ano-rectal disorders, Ksharakarma, Agnikarma, Netra-tarpana and other classical interventions. The hospital serves as the primary clinical training ground for students.
Research activities at NIA span clinical studies on Ayurvedic formulations, literary and manuscript research on classical texts, drug standardisation, pharmacognosy, and collaborative work with modern biomedical institutions. The institute also publishes academic literature and hosts seminars and conferences on Ayurveda.
NIA was conferred the status of an Institution of National Importance through an Act of Parliament, granting it the authority to award its own degrees and greater autonomy in academic and administrative matters. This elevation aligned NIA with similar national-level institutions in other systems of medicine.
As one of the country's foremost Ayurvedic institutions, NIA plays a key role in shaping curricula, standards and research priorities for Ayurveda in India.
