Sane belonged to the generation of Indian cricket officials who were active during a formative period for the sport in the country, when the Ranji Trophy and other domestic tournaments were establishing themselves as the principal first-class competitions under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Umpires from this era helped shape the standards of officiating in the Indian domestic circuit.
Sane officiated as an umpire in first-class cricket in India. Like many of his contemporaries, he stood in matches involving regional teams in domestic tournaments organised under the BCCI framework. His long life span covered the pre-independence era of Indian cricket through the post-independence consolidation of the domestic game.
Although umpires rarely receive the public attention extended to players, officials such as Sane contributed to the administrative and on-field credibility of Indian first-class cricket during the twentieth century. His career is preserved in cricket statistical records and structured datasets documenting Indian cricketers and match officials.
