Jagadeesan came up through age-group cricket in Tamil Nadu and progressed to the senior state side, where he established himself as a top-order batsman who could also keep wickets. His domestic career has covered the Ranji Trophy (first-class), the Vijay Hazare Trophy (List A), and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (Twenty20).
Jagadeesan made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy and has been a regular member of the squad across formats. He has frequently opened the batting in white-ball cricket for the state and has contributed to Tamil Nadu's campaigns in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, including title-winning T20 sides in the latter competition.
In November 2022, playing for Tamil Nadu against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Indore, Jagadeesan scored an unbeaten 277, which became the highest individual score recorded in List A cricket. The innings broke the previous record of 268 held by Alistair Brown of Surrey, set in 2002. During the same tournament, Jagadeesan also produced multiple consecutive centuries, a notable streak in List A cricket.
Jagadeesan was signed by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and was part of the franchise's setup over multiple seasons, primarily as a back-up wicket-keeper batsman. He was later picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the IPL auction.
Jagadeesan's 277 not out is regarded as a landmark performance in the history of List A cricket, surpassing a record that had stood for two decades. His emergence has also reinforced Tamil Nadu's reputation for producing wicket-keeper batsmen capable of contesting for higher honours.
