N. Chandra (born Nagaina Chandrashekhar Naidu) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, editor and producer who works primarily in Hindi cinema. He emerged as a prominent filmmaker in the late 1980s with a series of socially charged films that combined mainstream commercial appeal with themes of urban discontent, political corruption and youth alienation. He is best known for directing Ankush (1986), Pratighaat (1987), Tezaab (1988) and Narasimha (1991).

Before turning director, Chandra worked extensively as a film editor in the Hindi film industry, gaining technical experience that later shaped the pacing and visual style of his own productions. His early years in the industry exposed him to a wide range of directors and genres, which informed the gritty, urban realism that became a signature of his early films.
Chandra made his directorial debut with Ankush (1986), starring Nana Patekar. The film, centred on unemployed urban youth confronting moral decay and crime in their neighbourhood, was both a critical and commercial success and introduced his recurring themes of vigilante response to social rot.
He followed up with Pratighaat (1987), a Hindi remake of the Telugu film Pratighatana, starring Sujata Mehta and Arvind Kumar, which dramatised an ordinary woman's revolt against a politician-criminal. In 1988, he directed Tezaab, starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. The film was one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of the year, and its song "Ek Do Teen" became a major cultural moment, propelling Madhuri Dixit to stardom.
In 1991, Chandra directed Narasimha, an action drama starring Sunny Deol, Dimple Kapadia and Urmila Matondkar. He subsequently directed films including Humla (1992), Wajood (1998) starring Nana Patekar and Madhuri Dixit, and Style (2001), a youth comedy that introduced actors Sharman Joshi and Sahil Khan and spawned a sequel, Xcuse Me (2003).
Chandra also produced and directed in Marathi cinema, including the film Yashwant in its various associations, and later returned with projects aimed at regional audiences, reflecting his roots in Maharashtra.
