NITTE (Nitte Deemed to be University) is a private deemed-to-be university headquartered in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. The university traces its origins to the educational initiatives of the Nitte Education Trust, which was established under the leadership of N. Vinaya Hegde and named after the village of Nitte in the Karkala taluk of Udupi district. The Nitte group of institutions began with educational establishments founded in the village of Nitte and later expanded to Mangalore and Bengaluru. The Nitte Education Trust progressively built constituent colleges in professional disciplines, which were subsequently brought together under the umbrella of a deemed-to-be university recognised by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission.
