Munabao is a small village and railway station situated in the Barmer district of Rajasthan, in western India. Located in the Thar Desert close to the international border with Pakistan, Munabao is best known as the last Indian railway station on the metre-gauge line that historically connected Jodhpur with Karachi, and as the Indian end of the Thar Express, a cross-border passenger train that operated between India and Pakistan.

Munabao lies in the arid western edge of Barmer district, in a landscape of sand dunes and sparse scrub typical of the Thar Desert. The village is close to the zero line of the India–Pakistan border, with Khokhrapar in Sindh province of Pakistan situated a short distance to the west. The terrain has limited surface water and the local economy is shaped by pastoralism and limited rain-fed agriculture.
The settlement gained prominence because of the rail link laid during the colonial period that connected Jodhpur, through Barmer and Munabao, onward to Hyderabad (Sindh) and Karachi. After the Partition of India in 1947 the line continued to function for some time, but it was severed in the wake of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, after which cross-border services through Munabao were suspended for several decades.
Munabao re-emerged as a notable border crossing with the launch of the Thar Express, the second rail link between India and Pakistan after the Samjhauta Express. The service began running in February 2006, connecting Bhagat Ki Kothi station in Jodhpur with Karachi via Munabao on the Indian side and Khokhrapar on the Pakistani side. Munabao functioned as the Indian immigration and customs checkpoint for passengers using this route. The line was converted from metre gauge to broad gauge in the run-up to the service.
Operations of the Thar Express were affected by periodic tensions in India–Pakistan relations, and the service was suspended in 2019 in the aftermath of changes in the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Despite its small population, Munabao occupies a strategic position in India's western frontier. It serves as a forward post for the Border Security Force, a checkpoint for cross-border rail travellers, and a symbol of the limited but historically important transport links between the western Indian states and the Sindh region of Pakistan. The station and its associated immigration facilities remain part of the infrastructure available for any future revival of bilateral rail services.
