The Mumbai Port Trust Railway (MPTR) is a dedicated railway system operated by the Mumbai Port Authority (formerly the Mumbai Port Trust) to handle freight traffic between the docks of Mumbai harbour and the Indian Railways network. The Mumbai Port Trust, established in 1873, has historically been one of India's principal maritime gateways. To efficiently move imported and export-bound cargo to and from the docklands along the eastern waterfront of Mumbai, the Trust developed an internal railway network linking its wharves, warehouses, and yards. This network interfaces with the Indian Railways system, enabling onward movement of goods to the hinterland.

Rail evacuation of cargo reduces road congestion in the densely populated port area of South and Central Mumbai and contributes to the efficiency of port throughput.
